Find the way…

Reach the pain…

Today, we of the calamitous Black Metal Daily proudly conspire with Time To Kill Records, to bring you: the full and glorious return of a torch-bearer.

Born amidst the magick of 1995 from members of the legendary medieval folk/gothic black metal band Evol (go listen to The Saga Of The Horned King if you haven’t already), DEATH DIES – yes, like the Goblin song from the Profondo Rosso soundtrack – are a name the current-era black metal enjoyer might not have heard if they haven’t been paying close attention to the Italian scene. With precious few of their works readily available digitally and the band only relatively recently becoming active on the modern internet (read: social media), their more violent take on the sound of their original band has been both an obscure gem and strong institution of their national scene for decades now. But! All of that is about to change, with the release of their first album of mostly new material since 2006’s PseudoChristos – the massive Stregoneria, which we are presenting in full today.

Now a five piece, Messrs Demian De Saba (drums), Samael Von Martin (guitars and backing vocals), Danjal (bass), Der Todesking (rhythm guitars) and Viktor Flamel (vox and screams) prove with Stregoneria that their creative flame has never dimmed. Whether it’s the blistering statement of intent of opening strike ‘Abiura l’eterno’, the ineffable driving force of ‘Al – Shi’ra’, the supreme riffs and searing venom of ‘Argento’,  the crushing stomp of ‘Impero’, the savage, Blasphemy and Beherit-inspired destruction of ‘Lame’, or perhaps the brawny groove (and ripping solo) of diabolical closer ‘Vento d’erebo’, they make it clear they’ve returned from hell… and are here to dominate your feeble souls and take them back down with them. They’ve even included another stellar EVOL re-recording for those wretches unfamiliar with the glorious past; the haunting ‘Sorrow of the Witch’.

What’s that? You want special guests? No problem: Andy “Bull” Panigada from Bulldozer plays lead guitar on ‘Argento’, Lucho Sanchez from Blizzard Hunter plays lead guitar on ‘Vento d’Erebo’, Simon Fèrètro from Mater A Clivis Imperat riffs on ‘Abiura l’Eterno’, ‘Falce e Corona’ and the fucking savage ‘Mystery Forest’ – which also features none other than Mr. Yasuzuky from Abigail, who turns in an absolutely unhinged vocal performance and sets the track ablaze.

About Stregoneria, the band themselves say:

“This album was initially drafted in early 2020. The original idea was to return by releasing some stand alone singles supported by lyric videos. The pandemic and the consolidation of a new line-up with the arrival of vocalist Viktor Flamel made us change our plans eventually, as we managed to find the time and concentration to work on a real album in an organic way. ‘Stregoneria’ is the perfect musical and attitudinal expression of Death Dies in 2023, a coherent album which still manages to display all the different faces of our sound, from pure black metal to doom leanings. We have summoned a few illustrious guests and their contributions shine on several tracks; the mixing was carried out in one of the best recording studios in Italy and we ended up with an old school sound with a more modern edge. There are many facets in extreme music that belong to our classic trademark and ‘Stregoneria’ is a great example of what we can achieve with our music.”

After giving full attention to re-recording classic tracks on 2015’s Legione, now is the time for Death Dies to spread their flame further than ever before – and the sorceries of Stregoneria have surely doomed us all. Hails.

Stregoneria releases June 2nd via Time To Kill Records.
